Two years ago I wanted to get a micro four thirds cam...but settled for less. If dreams could come true and I could acquire one, would I be getting my first choice before of an Olympus Pen (an E-PL2 is the latest I think), or should it be Panasonic's G system (GF2? GH1? GH2?)...argh!! On second thought maybe a replacement smartphone would be better...such as a handy iphone3 (not even a 4) - it would be more useful to me at this point. All these letters and numbers are enough to give me hives. *mutters to self*

...GH2..........
ReplyDeleteGo for it!
ReplyDeleteGF2...with 20mm pancake lens (takes even better shots in low light/indoors) or 14-42mm lens (a more versatile lens)...i use a GF1...upgrade is the GF2 is even a bit smaller & lighter...and touch screen! am even considering getting one. where are you staying? i bought mine on Mody Road, behind Holiday Inn...best price you'll get, no frills no hassles...i was happy after buying my cam, & finding price was lowest, when i compared it to all other stores.
ReplyDeletehmm.. ok....somebody is saying GH2?
ReplyDeletebut then somebody is saying GF2....
antayin ko next generation? hehehe...
sayang kc e punta ako HK...
Doc Philip - pinaubaya ko san kami na hotel mag stay sa nagyaya ng HK hahaha....
ah, I better check the prices too before I go any further...
which? which? which?
ReplyDeletehuhuhu!
Sir B, please buy the GH2, the videos it takes look great even in low light conditions!
GF2 looks smaller....
ReplyDeleteCheck the reviews on the internet before buying. Some people have brand loyalty and will stick to that brand no matter what. Quite frankly, can we really tell the difference between photographs taken with different camera brands - Panasonic vs Olympus vs Canon vs Nikon vs Sony? Perhaps with a $10,000 Leica M9 yes, but even that is debatable. Sometimes people buy a certain camera brand or model because of its snob appeal. But you know what? At the end of the day, it's the final image created by you, the person behind the lens, that really matters.
ReplyDeletehi BNK...
ReplyDeleteyep, been reading dpreview's articles on the 3 (well, I skipped E-PL2 coz last year ko pa na-read yon hehe) and afterwards posted this note because my head was whirling already at 2 am :-)
I've been quite happy so far w/ the low light pics given by the LX5...so when it came to m4/3 na cam...this is the reason why I am considering the Panasonic family.
wala yata akong loyalty kapag brands sa cameras...LOL...I've had Fujifilm, Nikon (sa dad na pamana), Olympus, Kodak, GE and latest is Panasonic. They are still all around (well yung Olympus WP nga lang ang medyo inis talaga ako) but I have cameras like accessories kc...whatever mood and type of location that I go to, yun ang camerang bitbitin ko...not just one though.
The model that woke me up to digital photography was a Canon Ixus (ixy in Japan) that I used to chase after the geishas in Kyoto.
ReplyDeletehmm..baka gusto nyo Canon na m4/3 din ..ehem...pero I think the smallest for now is the GF2 if tama ang reading ko...
ReplyDeleteam not sure also if may Canon ba...for m4/3 I've been reading on mostly Olympus, Sony and Panasonic...
Canon has no micro four thirds digital camera yet.
ReplyDeleteMine is a Canon SD30 which I've been shooting with ever since. It's only a 5 MP and has gone through 6,200 digital images already and still going strong.
ReplyDeleteare they going to also jump in this category or leave it alone?
ReplyDeleteProbably not. As the number one selling digital camera company in North America, they're quite happy with their product line right now.
ReplyDeleteadvice: when i plan to buy a gadget, i check prices at Amazon as baseline comparison for stores where i may find the item...i am decided beforehand on that item & nothing else...in HK, the store clerks will push you into buying something else(if you don't agree on the price), another brand or model...& will sell you accesories that you were not prepared to buy, the price of w/c has been jacked u, to make up for the discount they gave you for your purchase!
ReplyDeleteStick to what you want...i suggest you go to the store i wrote of earlier...wala ng tawad tawad...his price is the best.
Take note Cat. Good advice from Dr. Phil.
ReplyDeleteany particular name of the store po? or sya lang pong mag-isa sa Mody Road (I'm assuming its now the address)...
ReplyDeletesame ako...hence yung LX5 nga when I saw it...I was hoping it would go down as to how it was listed...until it did go down to USD 300 plus..hehe...sarap...
ReplyDeletefound some very nice reviews of both GF2 and GH2 on a Japanese website (liked the photos taken, and video esp ng GH2)...however since its just recently come out, its understandably expensive still for GF2...
gamitin ko na lang money for another trip abroad...hehehe
i can't remember the name...i will find out tomoro & post it...its a store w/o any displays, just boxes of cameras & lenses...you just tell the man what you are looking for & he'll write the price(in $HK) in a pc of paper...if you have time to canvass, check other stores before getting it here, so you'll have a better idea of the price...as i said i compare it to that in Amazon.
ReplyDeleteoh btw...as of now its coming out ~ USD 700 for GF2 and ~USD 1000 for GH2...
ReplyDeletehay....think of all the pizzas and ice cream one can eat...
I'm hoping out of stock yung red GF2 (wink) so I don't get tempted...
btw, as a matter of curiousity, which usually has better price when buying for example Panasonic cams like this? HK or Singapore?
yes po, I'm always fortunate to have very good advice and tips from Doc Philip on stuff like this...he is one of the reasons na-finalize and bili ko ang LX5 :-)
ReplyDeletealso to you for taking the time to also say your thoughts and ideas on gadget buying (and of course si Joey din, pero nasa PM hahaha)
i prefer buying electronics in Singapore than in HK...prices are generally fixed, the store clerks are courteous & polite, they don't mind if you just ask the price & leave...totally different in HK...i've had quite a few unpleasant encounters in HK...but this camera store where i bought my GF1 in Mody Rd. was different, maybe bec. i knew the price i wanted, so when he quoted it, OK na...w/o checking other camera stores, it was my first stop in my things to do...later on checking in other stores, i was happy that i did get the best price.
ReplyDeleteoh & in Sing, i check the electronic stores in Changi Duty Free stores... if what i'm looking for is available , i buy it there, avoiding the pain of refunding the GST( gov't sales tax).
ReplyDeletesince you are going to hongkong, go check out the eletronics and camera shop - Broadway, its at 7th fl., Times Square, 1 Matheson St., Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
ReplyDeletePhone: 2506-0228
hehe..sabagay queue ulit if ever may nabili ka nga sa labas....good tip!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meann......when are you next going to HK ba? bibili ka na ng camera dito?
ReplyDeleteFortress is also a chain of electronic stores you may want to check(you will see it everywhere)...they were selling GF1 & happy to know that i still got a better deal...or SOGO Dept.store in Causeway Bay, again moreexpensive, but you will see the retail price...they do have accesories for Panasonic cameras you may not find anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteapril. nah...agenda ni jeri ang april hk visit eh. haaaaay! tapos i want pa a kindle...and i also want a panasonic lumix 5, and i want ....and ...and....hahaha!! walang katapusan!!!
ReplyDeleteBuy Cat's slightly used Lumix 5 so she can buy a new Lumix GF2.
ReplyDeletehuhuhu....mas gusto ko GF2...but the problem nga is mahal pa rin due to its newness....hay....
ReplyDeletemaybe I can come back after 6 months :-)
thank you po....ilista ko to in case..though I am more for the cheaper price sana...
hahaha...so di mo pala agenda ha..kay Jeri pala? *wink*
ReplyDeleteas for Kindle, bakit di na lang ipad? kc di ba you can also read from there?
ako before I used to have this wish list for Christmas (not any order) - LX5, tablet or ipad, iphone, micro 4/3 na cam (that time Olympus pa nasa isip ko), netbook (am not going to pursue this anymore)...
the way its looking mukhang iwan ko yan lahat..hahaha..para maka-travel ako...priorities, priorities...
hehehe...am not sure if under slightly used pa ang term na magamit....
ReplyDeleteone day, isang araw...
ReplyDeletesomebody will develop just one lens which covers all angles...and we don't have to buy all these kits and lenses and stuff and carry all of 'em around...
There are several already available. One excellent example is the Tamron 18-270 mm aspherical lens. It can be adapted to fit your Lumix micro four thirds camera. Google reviews to find out how good it is.
ReplyDeletedi ko magamit yung IPAD! hmmph! someone is hugging it all day and night!! =S
ReplyDeletecge, pera na lang nga ang kailangan....for the cam and then for the lens
ReplyDeletehahaha..who kaya? wink, wink
ReplyDeleteHayaan mo Cat, meron kaming Lotto pool nila Joey at Val. Pag nanalo kami sa jackpot na $21 Million, sagot ko na yan. Pagdasal mo na manalo kami. LOL
ReplyDeleteahaha!
ReplyDeletenaku, tag-isa-isa ako ng cam from you guys ha (micro 4/3 and organic lens - c/o BNK, check; isang DSLR - c/o Joey, check; ah..eh..Val? Val..anong ibibigay mo? ) LOL
*prays to God on bended knees*
Walang nanalo sa last draw. Ang jackpot bukas is $30 Million na. Pag nanalo ako Leica M9 ang sayo. Pipe dream lang yun pero anong malay natin. Did you know that I personally know two Pinoys in Vancouver who won the jackpot? One won $15 Million and the other won $5 Million.
ReplyDeleteWowow!
ReplyDeleteTama ka, anong malay nga natin, we should be optimistic and keep an open mind of such things happening. And if it could happen to your friends, it could happen to you.
Thanks BNK for the future Leica M9.
(ayan, positive thinking na talaga yan hehehe)
