I'd like to experience luxury train travel - that's one of my wishes before I say goodbye world. In Canada, we have the Via Rail trains that cross the continent from Vancouver all the way to Toronto and Montreal, with stops along the way. In the US, they have Amtrak with similar transcontinental trips. In Europe, they have the Venice Simplon Orient Express, and in Asia there's the Eastern & Oriental Express that goes from Singapore to Laos. All these trains offer luxury accomodations, good food, and breath-taking scenery along the way.
I have an idea that can be easily done in the Philippines. How about having a Legazpi-Laoag Luzon Express luxury train? All the coaches will be first class with passenger cabins, a dining coach, a viewing coach. The trip starts in Bicol and ends in Ilocos with stops along the way. One major stop (can be an overnight stop) is Baguio. The whole trip can be done in 3 days, and passengers will experience the best in service, food, and luxury. This is NOT a passenger train for communting. This is a leisurely train designed for tourists who want to see the Philippine landscape while enjoying a luxurious train trip. If the Easten & Oriental Express can do it and attract tourists, I'm sure it can also be done in the Philippines. Google Eastern & Oriental Express for information.
Bert, the government is contemplating on reviving the Bicol to La Union line. Na-revive na ang Manila to Bicol. Sunod na ang Manila to North. Maganda yang iniisip mo; but that can be done with private companies para maganda ang operations and maintenance, using the new lines. There are many planned railways around the Metro and into the provinces. Private companies are stepping in to build and run them. Sigurado magkakaroon ng luxury version.

Sana matuloy yan. It's about time. Rail travel is efficient, fast, and economical. Maraming advantages and benefits ang rail travel. Proven na yan, just look at Europe. Sana pag natuloy yan, hindi bahayan ng mga squatters ang right of way ng railroad.

Those train tracks I saw in San Fernando Town which I remember seeing at a very young age were my first intro to trains and made me determined to ride them someday.
Hence I guess I was very train-rider happy when in countries na ayos ang train system...you can practically set your watch by them...

Ay Mommy Loy I think tungod ni kay maorag slow or mo freeze uo akong connection when am traveling (I tried kc Powersurf sa Globe nga good for 30 days).
So when I click on the submit button...di ko kakita dayon if na post ba or nawala and then its still on my screen so i click again. Otherwise if I am at home with my wifi ok ra man unta sa iPhone.
I think for now, even with the revival, they would like to have the Bicol Express up to standard na talaga before they get into the kind of market.
My impression is, until such time naman na di nila ma-lay ang tracks, parang di rin mangyayari even if may trains pa na dumadating (yep, thanks sa mga nag-donate *grin*)
