Festival of the Ages (Tokyo, Japan)

Start:     Nov 3, '10
Location:     Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo Jidai Matsuri

This festival takes after the much bigger and older one held in Kyoto a few weeks earlier (October 22).

On National Culture Day, locals dress in their colorful costumes to represent historic figures from their history and parade around the Sensō-ji temple (this is Tokyo's oldest temple) precincts in Asakusa.

  2. Although I have been in Tokyo many times the only Festival I've seen there is "Sakura Matsuri"
    :)

  3. if i were to go there, the places that would interest me would be temples & shrines...places trapped in time as in 'old japan', and crazy/crowded areas like Ginza & narrow streets w/food stalls....oh and a train ride up north to see color changes in Autumn...saan kaya may mga litrato noon, yun nalang puntahan ko...hehe

  4. but the Sakura Matsuri and the Kōyō (Autumn Foliage Season)
are the top 2 goals for any Japan trip of mine.

last time, I still was able to see a little bit of the sakuras in bloom...but it was already May by that time...but I did get to see in action the Golden Week..hehehe...

  5. but the Sakura Matsuri and the Kōyō (Autumn Foliage Season) are my two top reasons for Japan trips.

for the former, I was able to get a glimpse of it as it was already first week of May (just a few sakuras left from southern Japan to my trip to Tokyo)...

but at least now I can say, I've tried Golden Week in Japan hehehe...

  6. for temples and shrines, I did a sort of marathon around Kyoto...the best for that (my Japan tagged albums show my Kyoto lakad)...

Ginza and narrow streets..I didn't take much pics kc busy sa shopping..hehe..or attempting to...

train ride up north - I will try if I can get good pics if I don't fall asleep due to exhaustion...

my wallpapers on my laptop are Japan views...may group din here on Multiply pala Doc Philip...which as Japan photos...I will look it up...I know am a member but haven't visited it for a long time..

  7. I've always been unlucky with the Autumn colours, never a complete change anywhere between Sapporo and Naha about as far appart as possible really (Oct one - thirty one) However I did manage 7 Festivals in 2009, mainly in the Himeji and Okayama area.

  11. yeah, Japan is expensive...

but, but...I love manga! and its really difficult to resist shopping when you get to be in front of all those yummy electronic gadgets and Japan souvenirs...

although I really tried my best, naka-shop pa ako sa Kyoto..hay...
then in Akihabara my first waterproof cam...double hay...ayoko na! I will stay away from all these shopping places and stick to temples and shrines and parks...

  14. Actually October should be the best but it appears to have changed in recent years (Global warming?) maybe.
It was reasonable the day I visited Mount Usu with my friend Kumi on Hokkaido, especially on the shore of one of the many lakes in the Volcano Park.
I've visited Kyoto many times at various dates during october but never managed to get the maximum.

  15. haha! there are already a couple of autumn in Japan albums I've seen which really made me all the more anxious to see Japan in autumn this year...

    enjoy!

also, if you are interested in my antics (not necessarily good photos), you can check out those I've posted which are tagged as Japan...its more of a narrative on what/where I went to, how to get there..if you want to pick up tips etc. for travel or where to go...

  16. hmmm...

should be quarter of a year then...October to December...LOL

if autumn change doesn't completely happen...then....its really not for you *grin*

    ReplyDelete

  20. Wow. so now I know where the tradition of cosplay came from!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wonder why its so much fun to dress up from like these figures...

but am sad though...hereabouts, walang masyadong cultural-"co-splay"..

    ReplyDelete
  22. During the PICCA, we will have a cosplay contest. We shall give BIGGER prizes to those who come in costume with local content. Hoepfully, this would spur up something. at least digging then embellishing folk tale figures.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hmm...what about the idea of having some of your folks and friends also dress up emphasis on the local flavor part?

ako vo-volunteer, kaso lang wala akong costume dito...pwede ako maging Nuno sa Punso :-) (oh di ba challenge yan if you can get the makeup and costume on me)...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wag ka nang mag-ilusyon na kasing liit ka ni Glo...erase. Pwede kang syota ng kapre.

    ReplyDelete
  25. these are modern times..even Glo..este..erase also...even Nuno sa Punso these days have more vitamins and minerals and good food, they can grow a few inches taller :-)

oh, if there is any other way we can help (na medyo in line with what we can do naman), I volunteer for the PICCA events (esp if weekends lang po kc may work)...
fuera lang to dance as a kapre...hehe...walking around..ok pa...

    ReplyDelete
  26. You are listed! Weekend naman ang main events ng PICCA.

  27. great! I hope and pray walang any weather disturbances, it will be a sunny day (so that folks will flock to the mall)

  28. They will rain or shine. SM North is celebrating its 25th anniversary in October. so I suppose maraming pakulo aside from ours.

    ReplyDelete
  29. fine, I will bring my umbrella..and look for flower-patterned rain boots :-)
