For the masses out there who are not lucky enough to eat salvaro from Cebu...read on -
The salvaro of Cebu are basically coconut crackers that are characterized by being flat and oval in shape. These biscuits are super-thin, in fact they are wafer-thin! and also very crispy. (Crackle, crackle). Because of their coconut flavour, they are made to be more unique and distinct from other delicacies and products of Cebu.
The main ingredients of salvaro are the enriched wheat flour, sugar, sodium bicarbonate, shredded coconut, and shortening. There are several famous brands and manufacturers of salvaro you can find in Cebu, including Gene’s Salvaro de Cebu (what I had).
I don't know if some people have been making it outside of Cebu (ex. yung rosquillos ng Titays parang may gumagawang iba na rin)...but I've only seen the salvaro described in Cebu..like when I see tagactac
another thing which my dad like to eat before was Hollywood Bakery's patatas...and funnily its not even potato-shaped..pero sarap as merienda...its like square shaped flaky biscuits that was beautifully "kagobcob" (crunchy)...sarap with coffee..hehehe!
@ CAt, i only get to buy Salvaro in Cebu. i have not seen any, hangtud Otap lang and that round thing that looks like a donut but flat and crisp and jagged but softly so, edges... gosh! the name escapes me!
i can imagine the taste of the combination you made and it does not repulse me, in fact i think the play of flavors are interesting. =D
we have these here and i have to control myself from buying too much at one time because i tend to gobble them all up in one go, it's like pringles, once you pop, you can't stop!
my mouth is watering as imagine eating it while sipping coffee! time to replenish my stash!
hmm..ma try nga yung rosquillos and tuna spread....am not sure about puto and mayo...(coz i don't have puto here)...but hey...it can work...ako usually puto and bacon (but then bacon is gooooodddd with everything hahaha)...
its really more like I get easily "pul-an" if its one flavor..so if I eat something sweet, I look for something salty...then later na-combine na into one meal...
haha, true! once you open that container of patatas...it seems dangerous to just let it slide...basin mohumok pa..so better eat it na...haha! BI kayo ko dah..(bad influence)
ah yes if rosquillos, that would be like kadtong Titay's I mentioned...
small rings but scalloped edges, and sweet sya...would you believe, my dad and I used to dip it a little bit in either water or coffee before eating it hahaha..dunking rosquillos...
lol, how did it go Cat???
ReplyDeletemurag imong gi apil ang breakfast and merienda sa imong dinner, he he he.
