2 a.m. Back from Mt. Pulag. 2:30 a.m. Hungry in Makati. Regret? I wasn't able to appease my longing for Pizza Volante in Baguio earlier.

  2. Even if may inconveniences and con factors, I don't regret doing it.
Would I have done it if I had the gift of seeing the future and knowing what would happen? Yes, I would.

Would I do it again? That I am not sure of...kc nag-ambition pa yata na return visit daw tapos Akiki Trail na... ngek, parang ayaw ko kc di naman ako hardcore na climber. Probably I would if I could have proper training and experience beforehand, but at this stage, am just very happy that its both pairs of toes which is experiencing pain :-)

mas matagal nga and way around ang Ambangeg trail, pero better be safe than sorry...hehehe

  3. Problem w/ hardcore climbers, they push their limits. Maybe you joined a wrong group. But what you went thru is worth every step you made. Charge it to experience.

  4. hi Doc Philip

that is one perspective na di ko na-thought of....I like the idea of pushing my limits, but not to mountain climbing :-)
pwede siguro was work ko..hahaha...but definitely not when you could lose your life in tumbling down the mountain on the Akiki Trail, maski don ka pa sa lake mahulog..brrrr...

bakit nyo po nasabi na wrong group na-join ko? Ah, maybe a misunderstanding..I meant more kc that the group I went with (not the organizers) were sort of saying parang ok na idea to go revisit Mt. Pulag say 3 years from now, tapos ibang trail. Well, that idea was before the actual Mt. Pulag climb...LOL

am happy to say I managed to climb to Mt. Pulag toting all my gear with me....but, I was sort of sad dahil we were trying to get there before the rain plunked down, di na ako masyadong naka-stop to take pictures while on the trail. Its a bit difficult with your gear, and people waiting for you...so definitely this was not a photo-climb...

  5. as a non mountaineer maybe a photo safari group would be ideal to climb with...a more leisurely trek....several years ago i went w/ PAL Mountaineers to Banawe...walking, trekking seemed w/o a plan...stayed overnyt in a hut in Battad, the very next morning, w/o seeing anything else, kasi gabi kami dumating in Battad, we left for Sagada! Sayang oras at pagod....'
didnt have time to smell the roses' ika nga.

  6. honga, mas ok ang group geared towards same interest like photowalk or photo safari...

for me even if better sana 2 nights (even if freezing pa ang weather), kc para mas leisurely ang trek and time to take pictures of the different scenery not the usual sa ating mga taga-patag...

wasn't able to see any cloud rats :-(

  9. Cat, I would dare say that there was lack of preparation on your part. Delikado yon. ALL the members of your party should have been told of what to really expect. You could never be too extra careful, or too ready.

  10. I have to agree that parang iba ang organizers for this trip from what I expected.

Since I read a lot of other blogs and saw some posts already from those who did the trek, at least naka-research konti and tanong-tanong.
Also, one other group I saw even had a sort of orientation beforehand, parang meet-up before the actual day of going to Baguio na ride.
May orientation sa DENR, but really, who can say what would happen although as a former girl scout, I tried to think of all the possibilities.

This one group I think was more geared towards mga adventurista. In fact, ang nangyari is may mga baryo-baryo or pairing up of peeps who went there, good thing nga 5 kami in our group nagsama and were able to support each other though 1 lang guy namin.

Lucky I wasn't like the other members who got sick, or wasn't able to eat etc. Sa awa ng Dios, I also forgot may impending end of the world pala :-)

The pro thing? sarap ng pagkain nila :-)

  11. The one deterrent for me in doing this again soon - latrine.

Although admittedly, those two latrines had a magnificent view.

  12. Hehe. Kung mala 2012, you would have seen the huge water coming to Pulag.

  13. What magnificent view. Of the mountains? The clouds? Or the pit?

  14. I am really thankful that Bikbik oriented us thoroughly.

  16. the trees on the other side and below which were like autumn trees of other countries during fall :-)

teka, Camp 2 ba kayo before?

    ReplyDelete
  17. If I remember right (as if ang tagal na). Camp 1 is around the bend where you have the open hut for resting. Camp 2 is the grasslands. That is before you climb the summit. What time did you climb the summit? Parang late na.

  18. yes, Camp 1 is may hut for resting.

Camp 2 is around the grasslands...cge nga mag post ako ng Pulag shots this weekend, para ma compare nyo if tama ba ako in my memories...

I went off around quarter to 4 am.

Arrived around 5:30 am...good thing 5:40 ang sunrise, otherwise, I'd have cried at the bottom...

ah yes, these pics are not of the sunrise...

only a few of us girls in the group were there during the actual sunrise, the rest were down below yet or still trying to climb up the trail ..probably mga 6 am na yon dumating or more pa...7 am we went down the summit na

  19. Mas maaga nga ang sunrise kasi summer solstice na.

  20. yes indeed, it pays to be prepared talaga...

on my part, my mantra was "travel light, travel light, travel light" and "water, water, water"

  21. you know what motivated me?

there I was alone on the trail and trying to take pics of the starry sky or the sea of clouds at one point in the bend.

from the trail, I could see a couple of lights flashing up high in the summit...from the cams I think of people who were already there.
That was a pretty sight, and one which goaded me to continue walking...bahala na yung ibang naiwan...LOL
