Kanin Club: "Filipino favorites with extra flair!"

CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT, MAKATI CITY, Philippines, 13 December 2010 - My tagline says it all!

*goes back to eating*

But seriously, what is there left to say when usually I can wax verbose and almost write a novel about details and my experience when eating at a particular establishment?
Let the action above speak for itself! *grin*

I was late for the dinner, and was supremely relieved when KC (Kanin Club) expert Leila already ordered for the three hungry girls with her that night. Girls who were never far from their food-trip-mode-mindset-thinking.

We had the following familiar-sounding Filipino viands. The pictures in the comments below will show the descriptions as these regular fare were prepared and served with innovative twists.

Itsi-Bitsi
Seafood Kare-kare
Crispy Dinuguan
6 cups of rice (shared by all of us)
Turon KC

I can't blame it on hunger, because even my tongue lashes out fiercely if it is grumpy about the "templa" (how its seasoned). However, I could be seen ecstatically chewing and savoring the viands as if I hadn't had dinner the whole week.
(Well, to be honest, I didn't have have a meal since 11 a.m. that day but even so, the dishes were tempting enough to be eaten even if it meant being off Santa Claus' gift-list).

Due to the season and its soft opening stage, service was a bit slower than what we had wanted it to be.

But the scrumptious dishes and the cheerful servers who were eager to please and appease more than made up for the little bumps on Kanin Club's road to giving other Filipino restaurants a run for their pesos. We have Leila to thank for the service part I think *grins*

Definitely a must if you are ever in the nostalgic mood for good ole Filipino food cooked as if there were no tomorrow :-)

at this point, I was ready to attack!

all food pics were taken without consideration how it will turn out afterwards...everything looked and smelled so yummylicious...it was bound to be seen how good it all was!

  7. to die for!

    uhm...literally!

this is the crispy dinuguan... (or dugo-dugo as we call it back home)

  8. definitely worth increased levels of uric acid and even "pain in the batok"...

description of the crispy dinuguan is shown in the menu...

dinuguan or dugo-dugo as we call it is of course involving pig's blood (haha...hence its "blood-blood" translation for dugo-dugo)

  14. hi John!

"Kanin" means "rice" up here in Luzon (northern part of the Philippines).

Lucky for the rabbit that we don't usually eat or prepare rabbit here in the Philippines ...hehehe...

have to restrict the album for today as I have not written anything but just uploaded it..will put it back up tmrw...or grant some peeps who strayed to it access for now

  15. That looks like some delicious food.

  16. Wow that is really a good price Cat...and everything look delish!!

  17. hi Ted,

the crispy dinuguan may look unappetizing due to its color (and well, its composition..not many people unused to the idea of pig's blood may jump at the chance)....
but its really one dish which you could pour on your rice :-)

of course, the dessert was my bestest part...though the kare-kare (something usually cooked here in Northern Luzon) and its sauce was also very delicious - the coconut milk was subtle but I caught hints of it...

  18. hay...turon..turon...kare-kare..kare-kare..
let's try the other dishes soon...

  19. hi Suzanne!

indeed, especially if you recall this is Manila, where the food is priced higher than in other parts of the country...and we couldn't even finish everything as we were so full...

this would have amounted to around USD 5 w/ a couple of cents thrown in per pax...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Around $5 - a bargain, indeed. Here in Vancouver, most Pinoy restaurants charge from $8-10 per dish. A couple out for Pinoy dinner could be looking at a bill of $30-35.

  21. The restaurant tables are on the small side. Pano kung marami ang order? Siksikan na sa mesa.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Itsi-Bitsi looks like the dish "beef with broccoli" served in Chinese restaurants here. Even looks the same.

  23. May barrel distortion itong kuha mo na ito. Was it taken at wide angle with wide aperture at extreme closeup?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I believe that the first Kanin Club opened in Sta Rosa Laguna. Stories of good food, Filipino recipes with a tweak, go around very fast, so KC is almost always SRO.

  25. if you are asking about the food pics...parang rata-tat yan na kuha kc gutom na...wala nang pakialam as long as may picture at makakain kaagad..LOL

hmm.I think one or two I used SCN mode..may Food settings yon eh...may iba ya naman I think parang intelligent auto lang.

    ReplyDelete
  29. so...so...kailan po tayo kain dito? punta tayo dito when it opens at 10 am..hahaha...wala naman sigurong mag queue non (kaso, masyadong early)

    ReplyDelete
  30. yeah..except I am a late riser....pero for the sake of good kain and kanin, cge, I will sacrifice my eyebags...and sleep...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. yes, same w/ me..I prefer it over stuffed squid actually....ah...I now have to dream about the sizzling squid here...sa Kan-irag

    ReplyDelete
  32. ah tsuri..Kan-Irag hotel here is known for its 24/7 resto Abuhan w/c serves pochero.

but my fave dish there is their sizzling squid

    ReplyDelete
  33. Must be special sizzling squid and sini-serve nila dun. Ako yung North Park Garlic and Pepper Squid lang ang standard ko :-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. usually I don't go for yung may cream ang sauce...pero yung parang butter and cream they put on their sizzling squid, ang sarapp....

esp if it sort of curdles or hardens a little at the side due to the heat of the sizzling plate...yummm...

hay, tagal na akong di naka North Park....haven't tried that squid you said, but will do the next time I visit..

    ReplyDelete
