There's a purpose to things happening. Even if your long-time necklace gets snatched-up on the streets in Quiapo. There's still a couple of good things to consider in exchange for this kind of incident.
Snatchings have been brazenly happening on the streets of Quiapo ever since I can remember. It happens in Europe too. When we arrived in Barcelona, our taxi driver warned us of snatchers and pickpockets. Same thing when we were in Rome and Naples. The culprits in Europe are usually the nomadic Gypsies from Romania we were told.
oh boy it did happen huh? diba i mentioned it to you...but no matter how carful you are, they will find a way...hope you didnt get hurt...that is just a material possesion that is replaceable...it could have been worse...hope you are okay!
I could not help but sigh when I remember my trips to Japan, my bag was just swinging, or half-way open while walking...safe na safe even if mahulog pa yan ang gamit mo, it still comes back to you...
dito? ha! I will eat my hat if it ever happens...
but yes, I've heard nga rin that in Europe, may magnananakaw na snatching nga...or dampot..ngeh...and how about those films where they kidnap girls eh?
Me and Che went to Divisoria for some shopping...coz I wanted to get some bags and windbreaker...ok naman...just lots and lots of peope as usual...no incident in my goal.. in fact, I got some pictures pa nga of the whole adventure today...
then we dropped by Quiapo again, on another side, where Marie, she and I went Ukraine the other other month I think...
thanks po...I am ok, Che is ok, kaya nga sabi ko, hay...swerte pa rin (I will think positive about the whole thing).
My necklace got cut and snatched, but I still got the good luck gold pendant swinging from it. Both naman were gold but at least w/ the necklace (it was a long gold chain which wasn't that malleable, so I think di naman yon 24K)...
My bag got slashed too, but maybe because of some factors like material of bag, style of bag (yung Sagada na monk bag), and the lots of stuff inside (umbrella, fan and other girly necessities)...would you believe I still got lucky and they didn't get anything? - the casualty was the bag w/ quite a long slah and a nick on one cloth pouch I had inside...
To think I even placed the LX5 inside na (I didn't leave it on my neck na kasi after we went to a bookstore/thrift store)....but *pats it*, its still here with me..
so, with some vivid red marks on my neck which I saw when I arrived home (probably from the chain when the boy pulled it), that was the only other visible mark for this...
amazing ha...my tshirt was close-necked (di naman turtle-neck but pretty fit to my neck)...but maybe nainis ang thief at di makuha ang gamit ko sa bag, he made a grab for my neck...
The first time I was victimized by a snatch was way back in grade 6...my gold necklace w/ Sto. Nino was picked off when I walked w/ mom a street on Reclamation Area in Cebu, near White Gold store...tsk..tsk..
this is the second time... hmm...wow..parang ..30 years later...:-)
The first and last time something got picked off my bag was in the early 90s when I was walking Colon St. in Cebu...the thief got only a sort of passport-type holder, which unfortunately for him contained some id cards
(hence funnily I got the items back when we heard an announcement on the radio that somebody found my holder on the floor of a jeepney, and the good soul had passed it on to a local station who then announced my name on-air)...
and...a check for Php 30K...which of course he couldn't encash kc pangalan ko...
lupet...pag nahuli unang sasabihin 1st time niya...1st time nya mahuli...at least both of you are alright...kasi naman siguro alam o nakilala ka niya, e 3rd time mo na...diba may ka sabihan, 3rd time is a charm...akala niya, charm ang nasa leeg mo!
remember what I jokingly said earlier? about the bf part?
abah..kanina lang, dumaan ako sa Gold's to either do the sauna or shower kc min. visits di ba......when all of a sudden, nag-"hi" ba naman sa akin bigla to isang gwapong, matipunong lalaki (na parang may dugong foreygner pa...) who I hadn't seen in my life pa...e ako naman, coz I didn't know him from Adam, just said hi an a rush then dashed off kc mag close na...
it was only only when I went down to Landmark, napaisip ako...- oist, yun na yung kapalit ng necklace na na-snatch...bwahaha!
either that..or part yon sa isang gang ng snatchers nag infiltrate sa Gold's para kunin yong pendant..ehehe...!
hay Mommy Loy, this is why I hate going out of safer places like Makati (and its not even that safe here, may na-snatchan na ng laptop yata sa amin)...
ang hirap kumilos dito sa atin, you feel like prey hunted by all these thieves, snatchers, kidnappers at kung ano-ano pa...grrrrr...
I can only sigh very deeply at this and just say goodbye to that necklace w/c I've had since last century!
thats why we Pinoys can be found anywhere..even in the farthest-flung places on earth...and survive...until the tummy comes a-calling and medyo mag-homesick :-)
anyway, I was thinking malevolently earlier (for a second lang naman before napabalik ako sa aking good self), that one of these days, sana may ma-snatch sila tapos may bomba sa loob nong item.. :-)
What is more important Cat is that you were unharmed.
But don't let that discourage you from going to these places. Just be very careful next time. Don't let your guard down even if you are acting casually. complacent.
true! after all, the necklace had been hanging around my neck in years, mas matanda na yon...haha...mas bago ang Lumix...even if iba ang kanilang value...*grin*
My mother is a survivor in snatching events. She once casually told me,' na-snatch na naman yung necklace ko, di bale, fake naman...' She has a closet full of slashed bags, hoping to repair them one day....
bata pa yata yung snatcher or bago lang kc di alam kung anong fake na di dapat i-snatch...
sabagay Che told me that once yung sunglasses yata nya din na -snatch...and di mamahalin...
dapat pa-repair na nya or donate to charity yung slashed na bags..malay, baka may mapunta sa asawa ng snatcher (kc dinonate pala don sa lugar) at baka maiba na isip :-)
naku, if these snatchers try to blame it on the victims when confessing to a priest "Bless me Father for I have sinned...gui-tintal man god ko sa naglakaw nga babaye didto sa Colon nga nagasul-ob ug bulawang kwintas...."
may they be festooned with burning replicas of all they have snatched when they go to to the bowels of hell....:-)
No Kidding?!

ReplyDeleteweird to think ha...third time ko sa Quiapo this week...
ah that is true...

hi Doc Philip,

sabagay w/ snatchings, you get harmed if you try to get it back or refuse to give it up...
ReplyDeleteand its not a good idea to give chase also...
I woke up around 6 pm...then went back to sleep..hehe...
I dreamt the next time may snatcher, the grabbed object will explode into dust when they finally get home to ...ayan...sana...hehehe
The first time I was victimized by a snatch was way back in grade 6...my gold necklace w/ Sto. Nino was picked off when I walked w/ mom a street on Reclamation Area in Cebu, near White Gold store...tsk..tsk..

ReplyDeleteoh, I meant third time in Quiapo area but not this particular one..
ReplyDeletethe first two times I went to Hidalgo due to the cameras (to buy a cam, the other time to try and have another cam repaired)...
today my goal was just Divisoria for shopping or looking around
Che and Tinette,
ReplyDeleteremember what I jokingly said earlier? about the bf part?
abah..kanina lang, dumaan ako sa Gold's to either do the sauna or shower kc min. visits di ba......when all of a sudden, nag-"hi" ba naman sa akin bigla to isang gwapong, matipunong lalaki (na parang may dugong foreygner pa...) who I hadn't seen in my life pa...e ako naman, coz I didn't know him from Adam, just said hi an a rush then dashed off kc mag close na...

Hay naku, when will we ever get rid of this?
ReplyDeletenamaaaaaaan!hala bumalik sa gold's gym!senysles yan.you lose a gold necklace but you'll find the guy sa GOLD's gym hihihi
ReplyDeletehahaha! honga di ba?
ReplyDeletegold necklace replaced by guy in Gold's gym...ROTFL
hay Mommy Loy, this is why I hate going out of safer places like Makati (and its not even that safe here, may na-snatchan na ng laptop yata sa amin)...

One has to adapt to survive.
ReplyDeletethats why we Pinoys can be found anywhere..even in the farthest-flung places on earth...and survive...until the tummy comes a-calling and medyo mag-homesick :-)
ReplyDeleteanyway, I was thinking malevolently earlier (for a second lang naman before napabalik ako sa aking good self), that one of these days, sana may ma-snatch sila tapos may bomba sa loob nong item.. :-)
Avoid this by not wearing anything "snatchable:"
ReplyDeleteunless body-snatchers yan...
ReplyDeleteanyway, shouldn't be surprised overmuch...maraming snatchers sa Cebu...sa Colon for instance...
isip ko di taga don originally sa Cebu usually gumawag nito eh...or else hirap talaga buhay...
We're glad your not harmed.
ReplyDeleteStick with Gold's gym. :-)
During the holidays, roberries are more rampant..kaya ingat lang lagi my dear friends...glad you're ok Cat..
ReplyDeleteWhat is more important Cat is that you were unharmed.
ReplyDeleteBut don't let that discourage you from going to these places. Just be very careful next time. Don't let your guard down even if you are acting casually. complacent.
be safe Cath..no amount of gold is equivalent to you:-)
ReplyDeleteThat "EH?" made you sound Canadian. LOL Canadians say "eh" instead of "huh" like the Americans.
ReplyDeleteYes, it could've been your new Lumix. hahaha That's major disaster!
ReplyDeletethanks Mar....
ReplyDeletehonga, safer pa yata w/ a Gold's guy..di sya ma-snatch if he is worth his salt...hahaha!
thank you Suzanne! siguro statistically increase nga in robberies to the season of gift-giving...
ReplyDeletethat is true...a few seconds after it happened, parang all I can think of was that...thank God, at least Che and I were ok...
ReplyDeleteI'm not discouraged, but I think I will go there on the not so merry months of December...
*hugs Chelo* thank you...if you were another person I know, I'd be looking for the punchline...hahaha...
ReplyDeleteam practical...the less to type the better :-)
ReplyDeletetrue! after all, the necklace had been hanging around my neck in years, mas matanda na yon...haha...mas bago ang Lumix...even if iba ang kanilang value...*grin*

Basta, for places like Quiapo, Divisoria, Colon and Carbon: no jewelry or nice bags. Lead us not into temptation!
ReplyDeletenaku, if these snatchers try to blame it on the victims when confessing to a priest "Bless me Father for I have sinned...gui-tintal man god ko sa naglakaw nga babaye didto sa Colon nga nagasul-ob ug bulawang kwintas...."
