I admire this Singaporean taxi driver just featured now on Channel News Asia - who has brought service to his customers to a very high level of connectivity, mobility and technology. I think he is the most connected/wired taxi cab driver in Singapore, or maybe the whole world!

  1. there's this term - mobile warrior - yes, for sure there are cons also..but let's face it..most of us who work in IT have become used to being on the go, even out of the office...

as I was pondering this concept, what else should appear but a feature on a taxi cab driver in Singapore who has taken service to a higher level.

just imagine, he has laptop, printer, phone, almost everything in his cab to ensure his customers are connected!

for one, he has a phone (VOIP), the customer can call anybody in the world for free on this...

another example, he has a camera in his cab - so he assured a worried mom about her boy going to school that he would give her the link and she could monitor from his camera in the cab how her son was doing on the way to school...

or how about this - 3 customers on a business trip suddenly remembered while in his cab that they forgot a document they needed in their presentation...so they just retrieved the document thru the laptop, printed it on his printer..and voila...by the time the last page was printed out, the cab was just getting inside ther destination's gate..

imagine if everybody is wired in the future! wherever, whenever! info on the go...*dreamy*

  2. Wow! Ibang level nga! Dito sa atin, the closest to this that I found is a bus line plying the south - JAC Liner.

  4. i guess its a good way of making the customer ride longer...while he surfs the net, make long distance calls the meter goes Kaching!
but i must think he is truly wired.
    great ad for Singapore!

  5. We once took a cab in Singapore which had a Karaoke. The cab driver would sing first then he gives the microphone to the passenger/passengers. And I thought that was the coolest feature then!

  7. medyo blocked kagabi from my laptop..but nabasa ko na ngayon....galing nga...kaso..e di naman kaya peligroso at baka mahold-up ka sa mga laptops and smartphones mo while on the bus :-)

I remarked sa FB post ko on this same cabbie that here, baka yung cab-driver ma-nakawan sa mga gamit nya...

but you know, thinking it over, who is to say thats not going to change?
couple of years down the road, baka something like this is not impossible here in the Philippines...we just need more and more of it of such things to be done by forward thinking folk

  8. yun nga ring unang naisip ko when I tried to apply the same scenario in our country...but am not giving up!

what a boon this will be sana if all over the Philippines, e pwede maging connected mga tao...

years ago, it was a big thing na may pager..
then dumating mga cellphones, and nowadays, sino bang walang cellphone (is an easier question)...

then mga laptops, mga ipads, mga smartphones etc. etc.

maybe this will soon also be within reach sa mga masa...and more people will have access to information being shared all over the world..more so than now

  9. nakakatuwa ang dinescribe nya na nangyari sa kanya...

and of course, medyo in-demand na sya :-)

  10. hmm...you mean going around the longer way or a longer distance?

hmm...I was thinking more of the customer having a longer ride, but using the time spent on the road to other things which he could have done...sayang din naman if nakaupo ka lang, unless you really need the time to just sit and do nothing...

  11. hehehe..Mommy Loy, when was that?

next time you visit Singapore, baka this is the cabbie you would be driving and Tito Rudy and the driver can even do digital photo editing while on the road...hehe

  12. how true! looking forward to the future!

  13. yep...the run around!
but as most know Singaporeans, they are very polite & honest.

  14. refreshing talaga to visit Japan and Singapore...although probably even Sing and Japan has its exceptions...

this time though, that cabbie driver gave me the impression na well-meaning naman intentions nya :-)

  15. Yes, there's also that possibility inside a bus (perhaps also a possibility in many more places other than inside a bus). But if the thinking is to not do it because of that possible danger, then such things as creativity, development, and the like would be dead.

  16. Good for you, Cat. I believe though that such scenario may not be exclusive to our country.

  17. that brings me to the question - which comes first? chicken or egg? ham or bacon? este...

but seriously...ano nga bang mauna -

we should hope that more people will bring their hi-tech gadgets to buses and terminals and that more and more people will do so para maging commonplace sya?

it would be good sana if a swell of folk do that and we reach that tipping point....

I was thinking, they could put the webcams nga on the buses para makita sinong nasa loob..maybe that would help keep incidents such as robbery and people leaving bags w/ bombs inside :-( to a minimum

  18. That's being done now. Some bus companies have installed CCTVs or webcams that can be remotely accessed in some selected buses.

  19. I know someone (a badminton playmate) who travels by JAC bus daily from home in Batangas to the office in Makati, who accesses emails while on board the bus. So upon reaching the office, tapos na yung first activity nya sa umaga, i.e. check emails, saving a significant amount of time of office work. By the way, if you drive your own car, you can't do that.

  20. In the case of such things as gadgets, etc., necessity is the mother of invention.

  21. voice recognition sa future..dictate to your laptop...hahaha...you don't have to type na..sabihin mo lang..tapos na...

    ReplyDelete
  22. then, I guess the next step is making it part of the standard needed for buses....

  24. Wi-fi is free at airports in North America and Europe. Is it also available free at NAIA and regional airports in the Philipines?

  25. Could be overwhelming! Comunications technolgy develops faster than one can imagine. Look at the first Motorola cell phone (called The Brick here), it was big, heavy, with a long antenna, and can only receive and send out calls. Compare that to the smart phones we have today. Amazing!

  26. i remember that! my hubby even kept his first motorola brick..isn't it amazing! now he has a samsung that is as small as a credit card.

  29. yes to NAIA, but the operative term w/c is important is - is it reliable?

ilang beses na ba ako sa malaking airport dito sa atin, cooling my heels and not being able to connect to their free-wifi?
    even at Mactan before...tsk..tsk..

  30. di ko naman yata naabutan to...mwahaha...but seriously I do recall the bigger cellphones before.....next time nga siguro may cellphone na parang pen...

  31. i still prefer the karaoke cabbie. hehehehe

  33. weheheheheheheh! i can do that myself man kay i have a big data plan on my fone. =) karaoke nuon kay wala ko. hahahahah
