A Very Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in the US who are celebrating the holidays. For those of us who don't have an official holiday like this..we ought to always treat everyday as a "Thanksgiving" day for all the blessings we have received - they outweigh all the problems we face!

  1. The closest I can think of is the annual fiesta, when we celebrate the feast of our Patron Saint/s of the local Parish.
That's when we see each other-our family members, whom we may not have seen since the year before. Then everyone eats.

  2. You are so right Mar - that is when we thank and honor our patron saint but Filipinos are a grateful lot as Cat said, everyday for us is Thanksgiving. Wonder how many Pinoys will have turkey this day instead of chicken.

  3. so lucky then..because we have lots of annual fiestas per town pa...haha...

I'm not sure though if most of the peeps who attend fiestas think of it as being a sort of Thanksgiving..more like an excuse to eat and run around ragged...haha!

  4. a friend just told me in FB e chicken na lang daw...kc cheaper....I said maybe it ought to be roasted eggs na lang *wink*

  5. This is so funny - LOL. It is not because chicken is cheaper, because it is tastier. Pinoys find turkey bland but I love it.

  6. True, chicken is much tastier, and you need to eat turkey with gravy. Turkey however has a historical significance that's why it's popular in North America during special occasions.

  8. the part I like about Thanksgiving dinner is actually not the bird..but the pumpkin pie Tita Lou....

yeah, parang bland nga sya...but anyway, I'm not also fond of chicken (except crispy chicken skin) so no loss on my end :-)

  11. Ha ha ha ha, kakaiba ka talaga Cat. Someone went to all the trouble of baking pumpkin pie last night at our Thanksgiving and no one touched it. Yon din ang napansin ko sa mga kapwa ko Pinoy - many don't like celery, strange spices that we don't often use in our cooking - like nutmeg, cloves, allspice, etc. I think that's why many ignore pumpkin pie is because of the spices because we are used to eating squash naman. Or it faces tough competition when we have Filipino favorites like fruit salad and buko pandan. But don't worry - I could eat pumpkin pie basta may whipped cream and good coffee.

  12. In our household, Sharon (and her mom) loves pumpkin pie. I like apple pie better. I need something to chew, except when it is leche flan.

  13. Thanks Cat...gabo, gabo, gabo...i can't get myself to like turkey that much...wish a large chicken will do...but, tradition is tradition with turkey on Thanksgiving & Christmas...in other words any special occassion, turkey it is....yeah, i like pumpkin pie with pecan nuts in it...special order...hehe...

We really have soooo much to be thankful in this world...God is good & He loves us all...

  14. waaah..sayang naman....sana pinadala sa akin Tita Lou...LOL

I personally go for apple pie a la mode, but if we are talking Thanksgiving, parang mas fit kc ang pumpkin pie (though I love pies, maski shoo-fly pie, pecan pie and lemon meringue pie pa yan...pero sana gawa out of lemoncito or calamansi as we call it)....

I sort of got used to those "strange" spices because I also eat Indian food and their desserts...and one of their drinks kc e milk with those strange spices...pero medicinal naman sya...for me masarap, not yucky...the same way I love lhassi (pero dito e may ube lhassi and mango lhassi so Pinoy taste din hehe)

  16. high-five sa leche flan....and I am with you on the apple pie (many years ago e hanggang MacDonalds lang ako sa apple pie)...nowadays with lots of restos and cafes here, there are some good selections of apple pie..and I prefer it with ice cream on top :-)

  17. pwede naman siguro lechon for Thanksgiving sa US....LOL

  18. Pumpkin pie is traditionally served as dessert at Thanksgiving dinner because pumpkin is very much in abundance at this time - leftovers from Haloween a few weeks ago. They have to find ways on how to eat pumpkin. I actually like pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream.

  19. Op kors pwede. Pinoys do it. In fact lechon is served in all Pinoy special occasions. Maski sa mga picnics may lechon.
