Sen Lek Thai (SM Makati outlet): "Broth could be a bit better..."

Rating:★★★
Category:Restaurants
Cuisine: Thai
Location:SM Makati Food Court
Thanks to Marie's heads-up that this stall also could be found here in Makati City - a blessing because we don't need to travel that far to the Coastal Mall outlet.

(Marie would merrily point out though that at least there, not only is it a convenient excuse for a food trip, but that we must not dismiss the shopping opportunities for cheap but good quality household items and decors *grin*)

Back to the topic at hand...

*sigh*
I am simply sad (I have this very woebegone expression on my face as I write this) to report the broth here is not as good as the one being dished up in Coastal.

The pros:
- seems to be bigger servings and more ingredients (quantity)
- more comfortable seats at the Food Court so you don't fall off your stool
- due to its location in this mall's Food Court, you can have other choices to pair with your pho if you do not enjoy it as much as you would like

The con:
- the broth, while good, does not have the intangible quality of slurpiliciousness that characterizes their offerings in Coastal Mall....

So there you have it - you can do your prioritizing and select which suits you better if you are in the mood for some hot Pho.

In this case, I was at least saved from sobbing over my soup due to the company of Che as we ate before doing some make-up shopping for a shoot the following day :-)

  1. when you go down the escalator to the Food Court level of SM Makati, look to the right side when you reach the floor...and there you have it...

  3. Thanks for the heads up on this, Cat. It has been quite a while that Hugz and I have joined the merrily single kayus (you, Che, Marie & Faith) on a food trip. =) Btw, isn't pho a Vietnamese noodle soup dish? Although I like Thai food, especially the curries, I prefer Vietnamese fare in general. They are usually less spicy and "healthier".

  4. Ms. G...di na yan pwede si F8 ng "merrily single" na tag LOL

if you do get to Coastal Mall, try Sen Lek Thai there, instead of this place...if they haven't changed their recipe, Marie and Che (and I) swear by it with our chopstick stuck to our hair!

yes, indeed Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup, served w/ beef or chicken.

I think I maybe too sweeping if I categorize a Thai noodle soup dish like this as pho also, pero parang interchangeable na yata sa akin if noodle soup...hehe...fuera lang po mami, makimi...lomi etc.

strictly speaking di siguro to pho coz if I compare the taste to the Pho24 offerings, iba rin from here...

oh well, beef noodle soup, anyone?

Hindi ako kumain ng noodle soup e. Pad thai yung kinain ko dyan. Masasabi ko sa Pad Thai nila masyadong basa. Coastal pa rin tayo =)
