Apparently aside from the JR Pass, there is now the bus pass for trips around Japan...
the pro to this is you can save on lodging expenses for overnight travel on these buses....but can you really sleep comfortably on a bus trip and be rested enough to tackle all that touristy things that you do?
I think it depends a lot on the person in question. Some people have the same abillity as cats (No pun intended) and are able to sleep absolutely anywhere. I'm not one of them.
ReplyDeleteI really learned this once several years ago by agreeing (unwillingly) with my wife to take a bus trip to Jugoslavia as it was then. It took me three days to get in swing on arrival, and another three days to recover on return. Never again we agreed, the holiday for us all was ruined by my sour attitude.
lol..these cats seem to be snoozing anywhere as long as they can curl up around themselves like pretzel...
ReplyDeleteTrue for both the human and the feline variety, the latter I've seen sleeping on the top edge of an open door.
ReplyDeletelol.
was the ride a bit bumpy or there was swerving?
ReplyDeleteI agree its difficult w/ buses...I'd rather try for an overnight train. One of my bosses before was on his end, so used to traveling that anytime we boarded a plane, he immediately fell asleep...or even if it was a strange and new hotel, he'd drop off like a rock. It really depends, as you rightly said.
The last time I tried overnight thru bus was on a trip through some already bad weather going towards Caramaon (site of Survivor France or something tv show) here in Philippines...luckily the "bed" and bad weather was conducive to sleep even with the movement of the bus..however, I did wonder if it was more accident prone (which ruined my curling up like a sack on the reclining chair).
that I've not seen...did you get a picture of the dexterous sleeper? (must be a small cat, how can they balance on the edge of a door?)
ReplyDeleteNo, the ride was fine for the most part at least, only the final haul down from Itally - Trieste - to Split was a bid less smooth.
ReplyDeleteThe seats were of the reclining type but not designed for very long legged users.
As for Planes I can't sleep if I use Tourist class, and with Trains it depends a lot upon which country, I would imagine that the sleeping cars on Shinkansen would be great. Danish trains are lousey.
aww...a cutie...his fur looks luxurious..and that bushy tail makes for great balancing to help him not fall off whatever precarious perch he may be on...
ReplyDeletebut he does look a bit too big for a door's edge..unless it was a bigger door?
I commiserate...I hate long-haul trips..esp the business ones I had w/c had placed me in economy..grrrr...my legs I had to place on the wall..hahaha..and those who saw the movie saw my feet like some mad subtitle stuck on the wall...
ReplyDeleteI've always had imagined myself trying an overnight train..I even wanted to try that India train (forgot the name) which takes you from one tourist spot to another and you can sleep in between towns)...something like Orient Express....(too many movies)
it sounds something thrilling...vis-a-vis an overnight bus...LOL
Yes, although he was a giant compared with my other cat (She was 15) at the time, he was really gentle and cudly, his fur was soft but thick. The doors are standard, I did not snap him doing it as it was a normal thing for most cats I've had to do it.
ReplyDeleteI love cats, even if I never had them as pets (only dogs mostly...*wink*)
ReplyDeleteas you talk of him in the past tense, he must have passed on to cat heaven...hmm...are cats allowed there on buses or trains? (just a thought)
I'm not a dog lover at all, I tollerate them but only just.
ReplyDeleteAh, the past tense, no he did not die, he was stolen from me, such cats cost a bomb to buy.
Yes, you can take a cat on public transport here, one of those pictured in the album "Lost friends" used to accompany me in my car and wander around on the car ferry between Zealand and Jutland whenever I travelled. The red one called Pinky if you look in it.
lol.
WHAT? they catnap in Denmark?
ReplyDeletelooking back on my comment, I just remembered my second thought...gross and bad but...if catnappers were here in my country, its only because they made the cat into siopao (yep, there's this tale here that cat meat is in the filling for hot steamed buns)
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately Danes are not always so very honest so anything not screwed fast may be nicked. Cats, Parrots, Dogs, Cycles, MC's and Cars are favs for taking without permission but so is anything else really. Often the thieves are Junkies of course.
ReplyDeletethere goes my vision of Denmark as being like Japan in terms of safety..or maybe it was Sweden?
ReplyDeletestill, I hope they treated Randy nicely even if they nicked him..
Yes. When I came here in 1966 people did not lock their homes, cars etc, but that was then, things have changed for the worst.
ReplyDeleteI love the way things still are in Japan, if you forget your wallet in a bar or shop it is still there when you go back next day. Japan of course can boast the lowest %age of crimminality in the world.
Randy was most likely sold, at least he never turned up at a vets office nor did I ever hear from someone that thought they'd seen him.
I agree...I was 90 percent sure my lost bag (with its tripod, kasutera and leather jacket) would be returned...I experienced that and can be happy I can tell people how nice that kind of experience is...
ReplyDeleteof course, it could mean, they found my tripod cheap, my kasutera a bit squashed and my leather jacket too leathery..hahaha..thats why nobody wanted it..
ReplyDeletekidding!
I doubt it, they're simply honest to the core generally speaking.
ReplyDeletethats the kind of culture which would be nice to cultivate...
ReplyDeleteYes Cat, I agree
ReplyDeleteHugs.
its getting more and more rare these days to expect it from young folks especially from those of the more modern leanings...
ReplyDeleteYes, due to the negative influence of US TV programs and movies.
