To be or not to be....in Kamakura, that is...ah, depends on what time I will wake up tomorrow...otherwise I might just check-out, visit the kitchenware street in Asakusa (ahahah....drool over the plastic food displays) or revisit Ueno zoo. My feet are aching...
Enjoy whateve you select.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Thanks John...I'm afraid am a little low on energy after Nikko today :-)
ReplyDeleteafter seeing lots of Kyoto temples before, then Nikko...am just mulling it over...I can always just refer to yours and Ted's albums and cut and paste my visage on them...LOL
Yes you can, otherwise go and feed the animals in the zoo.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
hahaha..you mean Ueno zoo I hope..
ReplyDeletecouldn't resist..on the way back from Nikko, since I already was in Ueno station, walked to Ueno Park by early evening...too dark to see much but it looks ok for loitering...closed zoo already by that time...but I bet all those museums there would make one's head whirl...
Yes I did. The only other zoo I've visited is Himeji City Zoo, but it is a small one mainly for kids. Pitythere's not a Giant Panda in Ueno (Tokyo Zoo) it had dies a few months before my visit last so I had to make do with stuffed ones.
ReplyDeletelol.
hi John,
ReplyDeleteperhaps they will borrow another panda or two next time :-) and just in time for your next visit...
its a pity indeed, I wonder why they died, I'm sure the Japanese folks take good care of such animals as they do even with non-living things...
Hi Cat.
ReplyDeleteThey only had one, it was very old and had been sick for some time so it was not a suprise. They are saving for a new one already agreed with China. They sell the stuffed ones to gather the Yen for it.
True, they treat animals very well. Tokyo zoo is a very good example of that, just look at the spacious enclosures. It was already very much like it is now when I went there in 1953, its been improved since then.
Hugs.
Bilib na talaga ako sa yo, Cat. Manang mana sa akin. I still remember my 2006 solo trip to England. Parang ganito din ka pagod ang feet but there are still so many places to see!
ReplyDeletehi John,
ReplyDeleteI:ve decided to skip Kamakura for fear of missing Ted again this time...anyway, Kamakura will always be there...LOL...
I:m going to roam around Asakusa more, maybe visit that place w/c sales wholesale resto items or the Shitimatchi museum then go to Ueno and the zoo hopefully before getting all my stuff and move to Gotanda...waaah..tmrw a very early start for me since I have to go to Kanazawa...
so many panda stuffed toys actually when I went to beijing....although if the ones they are selling are made in Japan, I might get one...on second thought, I have no space in my luggage..waaa....
thats the spirit Mommy Loy...some people prefer to just sit down and rest, pero di ba..morag daghan pa man kaayo dapat adtoon ug tan-awon ug blessing-ngan sa atong presence..hehehe...
ReplyDeletewill skip Kamakura, might as well relax as its Sunday...
ReplyDeletemuseums might be the goal of the day..
Wheehihiii! Kuarta ray kulang, Day!
ReplyDeleteAnd what will you do with a stuffed Panda? Aber? It's one more thing to clean up because these things gather dust ike crazy. So there. No Panda
ReplyDeleteHi Cat.
ReplyDeleteTrue enough Kamakura won't go anywhere.
I think that the Panda toys were Chinese. I baught a bag full of mixed ones, mostly the type to have on key rings but a few larger too for my grand kids and my neighbors two as the neighbors were my "House sitters" while i was away. One was kept as a gift for my Thai friend Nantiya as I would be staying with her later that year and she collects such things.
Happy travels.
Hugs.
Hi Cat! Guilty kami ni Hugz for your solitary trip there now, hehe. But you must admit, solitary jaunts such as this has its own wondrous merits. ^_^
ReplyDeleteHope you can still go see Kamakura. I went there a very long time ago – 1985, to be exact. I still find it one of the best of the "temple destinations', even after I've been to Kyoto.
wow!!grabe sked mo sis!hala itaas na lang paa pag matulog ka na.
ReplyDeleteamen to that Mommy Loy! actually kwarta and panahon (time off from work)
ReplyDeletepanda ballpen lang siguro..hahaha! di ba may brand na ingon ana?
ReplyDeleteanyway, I had a meeting supposedly w/ an online buddy of mine (who may now kick me out of his friend list because twice we:ve not met up and he waited for me for more than 40 minutes each time..first w/ his wife pa..hay..long story, will tell you when I get back)...
so I budgeted one hour for the trip to meet him...kaso, even the one hour wasn:t enough..the perils of trains in Tokyo..and so many commuters...
so I didn:t visit Ueno Zoo anymore, though I did see the Ueno Park twice - once at night, once again on my last day in Asakusa...but they have a very nice museum there devoted to a display of the old stuff in Japan - their exhibit is made out of the real, from-that-time materials and houses ....
I have to admit the Ueno Zoo was a miss this time, and most of the museums except one ....but I have at least visited most of the park and my hiking shoes are now covered in Ueno dirt particles hehee...
ReplyDeleteyou know, there is a lot of those panda souvenirs here too in the Philippines..hehehe...
hi Ms. G.
ReplyDeleteI was actually thinking of going to Tokyo again after I:ve settled back in Osaka, God willing by Saturday this week. Basta naka-JR pass, e parang ok lang even if 3 hours I think - am not sure if I should go and visit maybe on the way yung Kamakura or mag-Disney Sea (hehe..shallow ba?)
I am kind of used to solitary trips, because nahasa yata sa Sara Lee before..went all over Mindanao and Visayas on my own and bitbit pa mga servers etc.
course I would probably have third thoughts if this was not Japan and I do this kind of trip....hehehe...
I was content w/ Nikko...but maybe I will try for Kamakura..or Kyoto again...
itaas? bakit?
ReplyDeleteah, para mag flow ang blood down?
naku, lahat so far naka-futon ako..walang malagyan to elevate the leg..
While in Asakusa did you manage to see this hidden behid the buildings Shrine?
ReplyDeleteIt is on Asakusa Dori a few hundred meters from Ueno station.
hi John,
ReplyDeletehmm..I don:t think so..see, I:ve not even gone beyond Sensoji-temple:s front..hehe..after taking the obligatory picture of it, I skipped to the side and went my merry way to look for a museum (my landmark was that amusement center and Asakusa View Hotel)...
what is this called? I saw actually another temple near the overcrowded Sensoji temple...hmm...I will refer to my notes later..am in the lobby...
Oh I see. I don't know what this Shrine is called, I photographed it then seached the web to try to find info, that's where this pic is from, but could not find anything, a pity as I like to know where I've been. I visited the Shrine with my friend Kyoko but there were no signs in English and as a typhoon was blowing we hurried away and I forgot to ask her about it. Sorry.
ReplyDeletehmm...so the Ueno station along Ginza line?
ReplyDeleteThat subway one was opposite the Shrine, I meant the big station where Shinkansen and express trains stop. It is at the cross roads, one going to Akha...whatever where they sell electonics etc, Asakusa Dori and other roads, one leads to Ueno park.
ReplyDeletemaybe the JR Central station then..that would be also in Ueno station thereabouts...
ReplyDeleteYes, it is the JR station. There are several stations very close to each other there, several are connected by tunnels or walkways.
ReplyDeleteToday I managed to navigate along Asakusa Dori on Google earth. I found out that the Shrine I added earlier is in fact "Asakusa Jinga".
ReplyDeleteHugs.
eh..isn't that the shrine beside Senso-ji Temple?
ReplyDeleteYes it is I believe.
ReplyDeleteoh, then I saw this...but didn't go out to the street to view the torii from that side...
ReplyDeletebut..I thought this was further from the Ueno station you mentioned.
If this is the temple you mentioned, it would be nearer to Asakusa Ginza station...hmm..I will recheck when I get back home..
From the Tori between the high buildings on Asakusa Dori it is really just a stones throw, about 3 - 400 meters to The Station. Kyoko and I walked down to the Shrine as said earlier.
ReplyDeleteI did not realise at the time that the Famous old Temple was so close to me, "Ignorance is bliss" I've seen the Temple so I'm not shedding tears.
The Hotel I stayed at in 2006 was almost opposite, the Subway station to Ginza was right outside my Hotel entrance but for the courtyard.
From my side of Asakusa Dori most side roads led down to the River.
Hugs.
hehe..good for you..besides, from Kamarimon Gate to Sensoji..its like...sensory overload...so many people...it was only on the nights I passed by on way back to ryokan that I found it blissfully more empty though you see one or two tourists taking pictures at night, and workmen doing some repair work..
ReplyDeleteSuch places are often overcrowded in Tokyo, my main reason for not staying there. I saw most of the important places already in 1953, during the early years after WW II there were not so many tourists.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
hi John...
ReplyDeletebut if it was in 1953, wouldn't it be nice to compare the then and now?
The Temple and the Shrine have not changed, only the city buildings are very much different to then.
ReplyDeleteI remember what Ginza market was like, lots of open stalls with canvas roofs.
To buy goods then you bartered with the stall holder until an acceptable to both parties price was agreed.
Great fun, just like in Arabic Bazaars.
Hugs.
I can't imagine bartering in Japan like in Arabic bazaars :-)
ReplyDeleteI always imagine that happening in China though...*grin*
Not nowadays anyway. Back then it was the accepted way except in shops where items were price tagged.
ReplyDeleteI did buy several Cameras then, a Canon was very much cheaper on the stalls.
Smiles
hmm...as long as no problems...but since everything is made China nowadays..am looking at the idea w/ jaundiced eye..
ReplyDeleteIt depends upon what it is you buy.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
oh, I usually gravitate towards gadgets..hehehe..
ReplyDeletenot so much w/ clothes unless I run out of things to wear...
hmm..maybe cat-related stuff...
I saw a lot of cat and frog-related things...which made me drool...
OK, as I've said I seldom buy anything so it does not really effect me.
ReplyDeleteI've just been listening to "Pachabels Canon in D" played as Rock music on a Thai Hammered Dulcimer., it's fab so I linked it to me page from YT. I got the idea from Noelkid. he he he.
Thanks John...I have checked out the link (both the dulcimer and the classic version) when you posted it (lucky had internet that time)...TFS...
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Cat.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was lucky. Actually Multiply had two raids, serious ones from Spammers and a rather long period of intermittent contact problems to deal with last week. The raids came before and after the other problem so things were chaotic, you were in bliss without knowing.
Have a nice day. John. Hugs.
eh? must be those personal messages I received which looked curiously similar to emails asking me to check out some links or videos...
ReplyDeleteI just saw them today when I opened my work laptop after connecting to the net at home...hmmm....
wow..lucky me..indeed, ignorance is bliss..hehehe...
have a good day..its back to work for me tomorrow so now am doing all my overdue household chores and some initial work emails...:-)
Yes, those are the ones, if there are any still in your inbox just "X" them out. Watch out also for ordinary e-mails from Hotmail & Yahoo, the payload is the same but they may appear to come from someone you've known.
ReplyDeleteI had three, one from an old friend in USA (Yahoo) and two from a Japanese friend, Hotmail & Yahoo. Both of these people had stopped using those services but had not cancelled the accounts.
Enjoy being back to normallity again.
Hugs.
hmm...can't delete these PMs...anyway, I did try to check the link (I was confident that my work laptop's antivirus was ok) and it didn't work, so again..bliss..hehe

ReplyDeleteSo do I but I cheat by using "Babylon 8" to translate.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
